  • A recent utility bill

How to Apply for Opay POS Machine

Here are the steps to become an OPay agent and get a POS machine successfully:

1. Upgrade KYC Level to Level 3

If you’re already an active OPay user, you’ll definitely be a Level 2 user, but before you can get an OPay POS, you must first upgrade your KYC level to ‘Merchant Level’ (level 3) to be eligible.

Steps to upgrade your OPay Profile to KYC Level 3:

  • Log into your OPay Account, then click on Me (Your profile).
  • Click the picture icon (top left) to go to Account Details.
  • Click Upgrade to Level 3.
  • Upload your picture.
  • Upload a valid ID Card (International Passport, Voters’ Card, National ID or Driver’s License).
  • Upload a recent utility bill (NEPA bill).
  • Upload your BVN.
  • Submit for review.

It takes 24-72 hours for the OPay team to review and approve/decline your KYC.

You will receive email and SMS notifications once you’re approved.

2. Switch Profile to Merchant

Once your profile is upgraded to KYC 3, switch your profile to Merchant.

  • Log into your OPay Account, then click on Me (Your profile).
  • Click the picture icon (top left) to go to Account Details.
  • Click Upgrade to Merchant.
  • Fill your Business Information and click Next.
  • Fill the required information.
  • Click Upgrade.
  • The OPay Team will review and approve/decline your request.

3. Merchant Application

Once you have upgraded to KYC level 3 and you have switched your OPay profile to Merchant, go to ‘Merchant Apply’ and request for an OPay POS Machine in Nigeria.

  • Log in to the OPay app on your device.
  • Choose the ‘Merchant Apply’.
  • On the next page, enter all the information as requested.
  • Upload your transaction history for the past 3 months.
  • Upload a valid ID Card (International Passport, Voters’ Card, National ID or Driver’s License).
  • Take a picture of your business centre and upload to the portal.
  • Submit for review.
  • The OPay team reviews and approve/decline your request.

How to Reset Password on OPay

  • Click on forget password
  • An OTP will be sent

Please report this immediately in the Support tab in the OPay app.

Remember to include the transaction number and a screenshot of the transaction receipt.

How long does it take for a reversal to happen?

Reversals on the system happen instantly to the cardholder’s account.

What do I do if my POS shows that the reversal is approved but cardholder’s account is still debited?

Please request for the cardholder to resolve this with their bank.

Please ensure that the reversal process completes before pulling out the user’s card, as this could lead to the POS not being able to read the card or its associated account details.

OPay POS Charges and Commission Structure

As an agent, OPay will pay you a commission/bonus from transaction charges and the amount of commission you get will be determined by your current level (the total amount of withdrawal you do monthly).

Commission is being paid into the merchant’s account, reflects immediately after the transaction and merchants can cash out their commission anytime they want.

These are OPay POS transaction charges:

  • For withdrawals below ₦20,000, OPay charges 0.5% of the transaction amount.
  • For withdrawal above ₦20,000, OPay charges a flat rate of ₦100.
  • For deposit from ₦5000 and below, OPay charges a flat rate of ₦10.
  • For deposit from ₦5,001 to ₦10,000, OPay charges a flat rate of ₦20.
  • For transfer above ₦10,000, OPay charges a flat rate of ₦30.
