Several NFL teams have recently pushed to prohibit the Tush Push, a signature move developed for Jalen Hurts. In response, Lions head coach Dan Campbell has issued a bold statement to the league.
The Philadelphia Eagles have designed a distinctive play known as the Tush Push, with Jalen Hurts at its core. Following the NFL’s consideration of banning it, Lions head coach Dan Campbell has delivered a firm message to the league about this move.
Recently, the NFC has seen significant development, particularly from the Eagles and the Lions. Both teams are now regarded as top contenders in the conference, with Philadelphia being the most recent Super Bowl champion.
A key element of the Eagles’ success is the Tush Push, a play that allows Jalen Hurts to secure the critical one yard necessary to move the chains. It has proven to be nearly unstoppable against opposing defenses.
Dan Campbell speaks candidly about the NFL’s efforts to ban the Eagles’ Tush Push
Several years ago, the Eagles perfected the nearly unbeatable Tush Push, which is essentially a quarterback sneak, but with two players positioned behind the quarterback to push him forward for additional yardage.
While numerous teams have attempted to replicate the play, it seems only the Eagles have fully mastered it. This has led several teams to push for its ban, though the proposal ultimately failed to gain enough support.
This offseason, the Packers filed an official complaint with the NFL in an effort to outlaw the Tush Push. Although the motion was rejected, it sparked widespread debate about whether a successful play should be banned.
Dan Campbell, head coach of the Detroit Lions, has now voiced his opinion on the matter. He believes that banning the Tush Push is not the solution; rather, he urged teams to develop strategies to counter it rather than complain.
“I am of the school that they found something and it’s up to everybody else to stop it. So I’m a hard yes,” Campbell stated when asked if the Tush Push should remain legal.
Could the Eagles’ Tush Push still be banned?
Recently, the NFL announced that the discussion surrounding the potential ban of the Tush Push has been postponed. Reports indicate that several teams voted in favor of eliminating it, but it wasn’t enough to completely ban the play.
The league has not ruled out revisiting the matter, but the initial attempt to ban it quickly lost momentum. For the time being, it appears teams would be better off following Dan Campbell’s advice: find a way to stop it on the field.
