Smith, a cornerstone of the Cowboys’ offensive line for more than a decade, spent 13 stellar seasons in Dallas after being selected ninth overall in the 2011 NFL Draft. Known for his rare combination of power, agility, and football IQ, Smith anchored the line through multiple eras of Cowboys football, protecting quarterbacks from Tony Romo to Dak Prescott and paving the way for elite running backs like DeMarco Murray and Ezekiel Elliott.

During his time with the Cowboys, Smith earned five First-Team All-Pro selections and eight Pro Bowl nods, cementing himself as one of the greatest offensive linemen of his generation. His dominance at left tackle not only earned the respect of peers and coaches across the league, but also set the standard for what it means to play the position at the highest level.
After the 2023 season, Smith made the difficult decision to part ways with Dallas and joined the New York Jets for what would ultimately be his final NFL season. Even in his final campaign, Smith remained a force when healthy, providing veteran leadership and stability to a young Jets offensive line.
Still, Dallas was always home.
“Tyron Smith is the epitome of what it means to be a Dallas Cowboy,” said Cowboys owner Jerry Jones in a statement. “His toughness, consistency, and unmatched skill helped shape the identity of our team for more than a decade. We are honored to welcome him back and celebrate his career the right way — as a Cowboy.”
The date and details of the ceremonial signing have yet to be officially announced, but the moment promises to be an emotional farewell for one of the most respected figures in the franchise’s storied history.
With his retirement, Smith will become eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in five years — and there’s little doubt that Canton will come calling.
Tyron Smith may have finished his playing days in a different uniform, but he will always be remembered as a Dallas Cowboy
