D’Andre Swift is coming off the worst season of his NFL career.
The Chicago Bears running back averaged 3.8 yards per carry in 2024.
Do you like Caleb Williams’ approach heading into ’25 season? ‘GMFB’
He could be a trade candidate after June 1 to save some cap room, writes Pro Football Network’s Sterling Xie.
In his stead, Xie writes the Bears should try to trade for Bills star James Cook.
Cook is pretty much the only Bills star eligible for an extension this offseason who hasn’t gotten one.
Earlier in the offseason, he proclaimed he wanted a $15 million per year deal. Apparently, the Bills weren’t all that interested in that price.
Xie doesn’t spell out any reasoning for Cook in Chicago beyond the fact that the Bears will then need someone to replace Swift.
Cook would definitely be an upgrade. He’s coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, and he ran for an NFL-best 16 TDs in 2024.
Buffalo already has a replacement build in for Cook on its roster in second-year RB Ray Davis, so it’s a logical deal from the Bills side of the equation.
With new coach Ben Johnson in town, the Bears should be doing everything they can to maximize his time with second-year QB Caleb Williams.
Williams could certainly use a superstar running back, and Cook might just be that guy.
