The Dallas Cowboys’ secondary could use a bit of help in the secondary heading into the 2025 season.

Dallas Cowboys star cornerback Trevon Diggs will be returning from a knee injury that kept him out of the final part of the 2024 season. As a result, the team could be looking to get him some help through the 2025 NFL Draft.

In a recent article by PFF’s Dalton Wasserman, he picks a player who could be a “surprise” draft pick for every team in the first round. For the Cowboys, he thinks they could target Texas star corner Jahdae Barron with the 12th pick.
“Cornerback isn’t a glaring need for Dallas, but the team did lose Jourdan Lewis in free agency and doesn’t have a clear in-house replacement for his slot role,” Wasserman writes. “Texas’ Jahdae Barron brings over 900 snaps of experience playing inside and was the highest-graded cornerback in zone coverage across the FBS in 2024 — a skill set that would make him a strong fit in Matt Eberflus’ scheme.”

The Cowboys were in the middle of the pack in terms of how many passing yards they allowed in the 2024 season, so there is definitely room for improvement.
Barron finished his final season at Texas with 67 total tackles, 11 passes defended, and five interceptions, which tied him for fourth in all of college football. This solid play led him to be named All-American, and makes him one of the more impressive defensive back prospects in this year’s draft class.
If the Cowboys decide they want to bolster their secondary in the first round of the 2025 Draft, Barron could be a very intriguing option.
