Throughout the first four rounds of the 2025 NFL draft, no one decided to take a chance on Shedeur Sanders. His slide was finally stopped in the fifth round by the Cleveland Browns, who drafted him with the No. 144 overall pick.
Sanders will now get to work trying to prove that he can be a franchise quarterback for the Browns. After being connected to the team heavily in the weeks leading up as a potential candidate to be the No. 2 overall pick, he has an opportunity to prove all of his doubters wrong.
Following the team’s decision to draft Sanders, general manager Andrew Berry spoke out about the pick.
“We didn’t necessarily think he’d be available in the 5th round,” he said. “We believe in best player available.”
In the comments section of the post, fans gave Berry major backlash for his comments about Sanders. Many fans called attention to taking Dillon Gabriel in the third round as a direct example of not taking best player available.
“This guy is actually clueless lol,” one fan wrote.
A second fan wrote, “they believe in best player available but traded away from Travis Hunter, took Mason Graham at 5 and drafted Dillon Gabriel in the 3rd round. Andrew Berry will pay for his crimes.”
“Go look at how the Browns are posting him compared to Gabriel lmao. They know Shedeur is their guy,” a third comment read.
A fourth comment said, “Andrew Berry is full of it ‘best player available,’ but they picked Dillon Gabriel.”
“Best player available but passed up on Travis Hunter to trade down… smh,” another fan commented.
Berry has a lot of work to do to win over the
fans in Cleveland.
