The Detroit Lions’ defense will get a makeover this season with Aaron Glenn headed to New York and new defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard set to take the reins.
The Lions’ defense showed flashes of being one of the NFL’s best last season at several different points in the season before injuries became too much to overcome.
On Wednesday, one of the leaders of the Lions’ defensive unit, former Florida Gators star and Lions fan favorite Alex Anzalone, sent a message to the NFL world on his value to the team with NFL draft rumors swirling.
Anzalone retweeted a video of game highlights along with statistics on which NFL players played the most snaps in man coverage during last season.
Anzalone led the league among players with at least 150 man coverage snaps, showing off his versatility.
“No other LB asked to do what I do,” Anzalone said along with the retweet.
The timing of Anzalone’s post is interesting considering the 2025 NFL draft is less than a month away.
The Lions have been linked to potential Anzalone replacements, although the Lions linebacker is likely to start next season for Sheppard and head coach Campbell’s team.
Anzalone signed a three-year, $18.75 million contract extension in March 2023 to stay in Detroit for the foreseeable future.
