Today, we pause.
Amid the excitement of playoff pushes and summer tournaments, the hockey world joins the rest of the country in solemn remembrance of those who gave everything for our freedom.
Memorial Day is more than a long weekend. It’s a sacred time to honor the brave men and women of the armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice. From the rinks of Minnesota to the streets of Boston, tributes are pouring in from NHL teams, players, and fans alike.
Throughout league circles, players are donning commemorative gear, laying wreaths at local monuments, and sharing heartfelt stories of family members and friends who served. Many NHL arenas have held moments of silence this past week, with teams like the Bruins, Rangers, and Capitals paying moving tributes before puck drop.
“We owe everything to those who served,” said Bruins captain Brad Marchand. “This day is about reflection and gratitude. We play a game for a living — those who serve do so with their lives on the line. We never forget that.”
The NHL and USA Hockey are also supporting veteran charities this week, raising funds for families of the fallen and providing mental health resources for those returning home.
So today, whether at a game or at home with loved ones, we take a moment to remember. Their sacrifice is our freedom. And we are forever in their debt
