BREAKING: Hurricanes make goalie decision with season on line against Panthers in Game 4. Details below

Posted on June 3, 2025 by admin

SUNRISE, FLA. — The Carolina Hurricanes have made their decision — and it’s a bold one.

With their season on the brink, head coach Rod Brind’Amour has confirmed that veteran netminder Frederik Andersen will get the start in Game 4 against the Florida Panthers. The announcement comes after three hard-fought games that saw goaltending become a point of scrutiny.

Andersen or Kochetkov? Debate Ends Here

Pyotr Kochetkov had started the previous two games and showed flashes of brilliance, but also allowed a few goals that turned momentum against the Canes. The pressure was mounting, and the coaching staff ultimately decided experience would be the deciding factor.

> “Freddy gives us the best chance right now,” Brind’Amour told reporters. “He’s been here. He’s battled through it before. We need calm under fire.”

Andersen, who has dealt with injuries all season, carries a wealth of postseason experience. He last played in Game 1 of the series but was pulled after a shaky second period. Now, he’ll need to bounce back in a do-or-die situation.

All Eyes on the Crease

Goaltending has become a defining storyline in the series. On the other end, Sergei Bobrovsky has looked like a Vezina finalist, stonewalling Carolina’s top scorers and making game-saving stops in critical moments.

For Andersen, the challenge is enormous — but not unfamiliar.

> “This is what we play for,” Andersen said. “I’m ready.”

Game 4 — The Ultimate Test

Down 3-0 in the series, Carolina faces elimination. No team in NHL history has come back from a 3-0 deficit in back-to-back years (the Hurricanes were swept in the Conference Final by Florida last season as well).

If Andersen can deliver a lights-out performance and spark a miracle comeback, this could become one of the most memorable goalie decisions in franchise history.

If not — it may signal the end of an era
