Browns hope to bring back franchise legend with free agent deal image
Nick Chubb is the latest in a long line of legendary Cleveland Browns running backs.
Chubb isn’t the player he once was, but the current free agent could still be useful in the right situation.
The Browns are still targeting Chubb as someone they want on their team going forward.
Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot writes that Chubb and the Browns can still reach a deal.
“The plan with Nick Chubb was always to let him hit the free agent market and see what kind of opportunities he could generate,” Cabot said. “If he doesn’t find anything, the door will be open to him returning to the Browns as long as they have a role for him. With Chubb not necessarily suited to a third-down back niche, the Browns would have to make sure they have enough carries for him on first and second down and in short-yardage situations.”
Chubb was on the field for eight games last season, running for 332 yards and three touchdowns.
The 29-year old missed the majority of the 2023 season with a serious knee injury, and he may still have been getting up to speed even after his return in 2024.
Jerome Ford currently tops the Browns’ running back depth chart.
Chubb may not be the most important acquisition remaining, since Cleveland likely still has another QB move to make.
But bringing Chubb back, along with the earlier extension for Myles Garrett, would keep around guys that Browns fans really adore.
