The Philadelphia Eagles have only scratched the surface when it comes to addressing their needs during the first big wave of NFL free agency.
They still have several positions that could use some extra depth, especially on defense. The Eagles can either continue to address those positions with more free agency signings or turn to the 2025 NFL Draft for young talent.
Let’s take a look at those remaining needs below.
Safety
The Eagles’ safety dept got even thinner after they lost Avonte Maddox to the Detroit Lions last week. But their biggest loss at the position was C.J. Gardner-Johnson being traded to the Houston Texans.
Sure, they still have Reed Blankenship, Tristin McCollum, Andre Sam, Sydney Brown, and Lewis Cine. But outside of Reed Blankenship, there isn’t a safety that sticks out in that lineup.
The good news is that Sydney Brown is expected to be fully healthy this offseason and he should provide a huge boost at safety, but you never know when it comes to banking on play to bounce back from a significant injury like an ACL tear.
Cornerback
The Eagles have the young guys, Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, holding things down at cornerback. That is far from a bad thing, though they could still use another veteran presence after letting Isaiah Rodgers and Darius Slay walk in NFL free agency.
Offensive Guard
Mekhi Becton is no longer with the team, which means the Eagles will spend another offseason looking for a right guard.
Sure they have Tyler Steen and recently signed Kenyon Green, but the Eagles’ offensive line is always their strong suit and they need to correctly fill the position.
In Jeff Stoutland we trust.
Defensive Tackle
Losing Milton Williams to the New England Patriots was another big loss for the Eagles’ defense. Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Moro Ojomo, Byron Young and Thomas Booker are what is left of that position now.
The Eagles really need some playmakers outside of Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis.
