BREAKING: The New York Mets have reportedly acquired Sandy Alcantara from the Miami Marlins in a blockbuster trade worth $56 million. This move is a clear statement of intent from the Mets, signaling their commitment to competing for a championship. After signing Juan Soto to a mega deal, the New York Mets could still improve their roster. Despite some questionable offseason decisions, mainly with the lack of moves they made on the pitching side of things, the Mets couldn’t control the injuries they dealt with.

New York must improve its rotation, even when fully healthy, if it wants to be a World Series contender.

No matter how impressive the Mets’ offense could be on paper, pitching wins ball games, and the Mets understand that after their rotation stepped up for them in a massive way down the stretch in 2024.

Multiple arms will be available at the trade deadline, including Sandy Alcantara of the Miami Marlins. Alcantara is considered one of the top starters in Major League Baseball, and his price will be high due to all of the teams around the league that would love to have them.

However, the Mets could get a deal done with their prospect pool.

Caleb Moody of Just Baseball pitched the idea of the Mets trading for the right-hander, adding that they’d be an intriguing option to land the ace.

“From a Mets perspective, Alcantara makes all the sense in the world as well. They have top-end caliber arms in Sean Manaea and Kodai Senga, along with arms that could pleasantly surprise, like Clay Holmes. However, what they lack is an out-and-out ace like Alcantara.

“When it comes to a prospective package for the Marlins, the Mets could put together an intriguing one,” Moody wrote.

The Marlins are in a position where they need to get the best possible package in return for the All-Star. If the Mets have the best deal, they should win the sweepstakes.
