Breaking: ESPN’s Adam Schefter clears the air on A.J. Brown trade rumors before 2025 NFL Draft kicks off

Posted on April 21, 2025 by admin

AJ Brown seemed frustrated at times with the Philadelphia Eagles last season, which has led to speculation that the team could look to trade him. Unless something changes, it does not sound like that is going to happen.

In a lengthy NFL Draft intel piece that was published on Monday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter said the Eagles are not going to trade Brown before, during or after the draft.

“Contrary to internet speculation, the Eagles are not trading AJ Brown. The star wide receiver signed a 3-year contract extension a year ago this week,” Schefter wrote.

As Schefter mentioned, Brown signed a 3-year, $96 million extension with the Eagles prior to last season. If Philadelphia were to trade Brown before June 1, the move would result in a dead cap hit of more than $30 million. That is not something the Eagles want to take on given the current state of their salary cap.

Brown did not have his best season last year. He was productive with 67 catches for 1,079 yards and 7 touchdowns, but he had more than 1,400 yards in each of his first two seasons in Philly. He seemed irritated at times in 2024 as the Eagles leaned heavily on Saquon Barkley.

There were instances when Brown butted heads with Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni, and the two even exchanged words during the Super Bowl.

All of that has led to rumors that Brown could ask for a trade, and he sent fans in Philly into a panic last week with a social media video he shared holding another team’s jersey.

For now, Brown is not going anywhere. His presence is part of the reason the Eagles have been so successful running the ball, though he probably wants more looks in 2025. If Sirianni can find a way to get Brown the ball more while still leaning on Barkley, everyone will be happy.
