Adding depth at cornerback is expected to be a key priority for the Baltimore Ravens in the 2025 NFL Draft, even if it requires moving up the board to secure the right player.

One potential scenario has general manager Eric DeCosta striking a deal with the Kansas City Chiefs on Day 2 of the draft. NFL.com draft analyst Chad Reuter proposed a trade in which the Ravens would land the 95th overall pick and use it to select the tall, athletic, and versatile defensive back.
While Reuter didn’t specify what the Ravens would need to give up to acquire a second third-round pick, the move would be justified. Porter is still developing, but he boasts elite physical traits and makes an impact on special teams. In short, Porter could help the Ravens in both the secondary and special teams units.

Darien Porter an Intriguing CB Prospect for Ravens
The Ravens’ cornerback group has taken a hit this offseason, with Arthur Maulet not being re-signed and Brandon Stephens leaving for the New York Jets in free agency. While the team still has standout talent in All-Pro Marlon Humphrey and 2024 first-rounder Nate Wiggins, there’s a clear need for added depth.
One potential option is a trade for a seasoned veteran—possibly a seven-time Pro Bowler who fits Baltimore’s preferred coverage schemes. However, the last time GM Eric DeCosta made a move like that—trading for Tre’Davious White in November—it didn’t last, as White eventually returned to the Bills.
A more sustainable and budget-friendly approach would be to invest a high draft pick in a developmental player. Darien Porter fits that mold. According to NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein, Porter brings an “elite combination of size, length, and speed” to the table.
At 6-foot-3 with arms long enough to rival those of offensive tackles, Porter’s physical traits are rare for the position. His size, along with his aggressive playing style, makes him a natural fit for press-man coverage—a strength also noted by ESPN analyst Matt Bowen.
Porter will require strong coaching, as he played just one season at cornerback during his time at Iowa State. Despite his limited experience, his raw tools and intangibles could be enough to convince the Ravens to take a chance on his development—especially under the guidance of seasoned secondary coach Chuck Pagano.
While there may be other Day 2 prospects who are more polished or a better fit for Baltimore’s scheme right away, Porter stands out in another key area where the Ravens are looking for a boost: special teams. His ability to contribute immediately in that phase could give him an edge over more conventional cornerback prospects.
Trade Can Boost Changing Ravens Special Teams
Porter made his mark in college with big plays on special teams—football’s often-overlooked third phase. As Lance Zierlein pointed out, he was a “standout talent at gunner,” racking up four blocked punts during his career. He also added a blocked field goal against Kansas State last December, further showcasing his impact.
His mindset might be just as appealing as his production. Porter told ABC’s Local 5’s Jake Brend, “when it comes to special teams, it’s all about, you know, your investment and your heart.” That kind of dedication is bound to resonate with Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, whose roots as a former special teams coordinator give him a deep appreciation for players who excel in that phase of the game.
