Los Angeles, CA – May 1, 2025 – Netflix has officially announced its latest sports documentary, The Prey, a compelling and emotional deep dive into the life and rise of Buffalo Sabres sensation Tage Thompson. The streaming giant has labeled the film as one of its “strongest and most inspiring” original sports features to date.
Set to premiere later this month, The Prey chronicles Thompson’s incredible journey from being an overlooked prospect to becoming a dominant force in the NHL. With never-before-seen footage, intimate interviews, and behind-the-scenes access, the documentary explores the physical and mental toll of professional hockey, Thompson’s battle with injuries, and the intense pressure of carrying a franchise on his back.
Netflix’s head of sports content, Maria Alvarez, described the documentary as “raw, human, and unexpectedly emotional,” adding that The Prey is “more than a story about hockey — it’s a story about resilience, family, and chasing greatness against all odds.”
Fans can expect appearances from teammates, coaches, and NHL legends, as well as a closer look at Thompson’s off-ice life — from his upbringing in a hockey family to his role as a leader in the Sabres locker room.
As the Sabres fight for playoff contention, The Prey couldn’t arrive at a more relevant time, spotlighting one of the league’s most exciting players just as his influence on the sport reaches new heights.
The Prey premieres exclusively on Netflix on May 28, 2025.
