BREAKING NEWS: Former Denver Broncos head coach John Fox is now coaching in Chicago Bears, sent a stunning message to Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton concerning….see more

In one of the most unexpected developments of the offseason, former Denver Broncos head coach John Fox has returned to the NFL sidelines—and this time, he’s donning Chicago Bears colors. The veteran coach, known for his hard-nosed defensive schemes and authoritative leadership, has joined the Bears’ coaching staff in a senior advisory role. But what truly stunned the football world wasn’t his new gig—it was the direct, bold message Fox sent to current Broncos head coach Sean Payton during his introductory press conference.

Fox, who led the Broncos to four straight AFC West titles and a Super Bowl appearance during his tenure in Denver from 2011 to 2014, didn’t hold back when asked about the state of his former team and their current leadership. “There’s a difference between building something from the ground up and fixing what you think is broken,” Fox said. “In Denver, I built something. I don’t see that same vision being executed right now. And Sean Payton has a lot to prove before he starts criticizing others.”

This statement comes in direct response to Payton’s controversial remarks last year about the “worst coaching job in NFL history,” a comment many believed was aimed at his predecessor Nathaniel Hackett but that also indirectly cast a shadow over previous Broncos regimes—including Fox’s. With this one pointed message, Fox made it clear that he hasn’t forgotten the legacy he left behind in Denver—and he’s not about to let it be dismissed.

The Bears, meanwhile, are thrilled to bring Fox’s experience into the fold. Head coach Matt Eberflus, under increasing pressure to turn the Bears into a playoff contender, sees Fox as a vital asset in helping him navigate the treacherous waters of NFL head coaching. “Having a guy like John around, with his track record and understanding of how to win, especially in tough markets, is invaluable,” Eberflus said. “We’re excited to have his insight as we push this team forward.”

Fox’s arrival adds a jolt of energy and seriousness to a franchise trying to claw its way back into relevance. His influence is already being felt in the defensive meeting rooms, where players have noted a sharper focus on fundamentals, physicality, and situational football. “Coach Fox brings a different intensity,” said linebacker T.J. Edwards. “He’s been to the top. He knows what it takes.”

But while Fox is all-in on helping the Bears rise, it’s clear he still has unfinished business with how his Broncos legacy is perceived. Whether this fuels a new rivalry or simply reignites old tensions, one thing is for certain—John Fox is back, and he’s not interested in staying silent.

As the 2025 season approaches, the Bears are hoping Fox’s return to the sidelines sparks a similar resurgence in Chicago. With talent blossoming on both sides of the ball and a front office willing to invest in proven leadership, the winds of change are blowing through Halas Hall. And John Fox? He’s making sure they blow all the way back to Denver.
