Brian Branch: Injury-tested Lions are ‘better than last year,’ hungry to ‘get that Super Bowl’

Posted on June 29, 2025 by admin

The Detroit Lions are no longer a team hoping to turn heads—they’ve become a team expected to win. And no one embodies that hunger quite like star defensive back Brian Branch, who recently sent an electric message to Lions Nation during an interview with local media that has every fan believing this team is ready to climb to the mountaintop.

Branch, one of the NFL’s fastest-rising defensive talents, reflected on the team’s challenges last season, including a rash of injuries that decimated depth on both sides of the ball. But rather than feel discouraged, Branch insists those hardships have built something stronger in the Lions’ locker room.

“We were tested, no question. But those injuries? They just made us tougher,” Branch said with steely conviction. “This version of the Lions, the 2025 version? We’re better than last year—faster, deeper, and more united.”

It’s a bold claim considering Detroit’s 2024 season ended in heartbreak, falling just short of the NFC Championship game in a crushing overtime loss to San Francisco. Yet, it’s exactly that kind of pain that has transformed this group into believers.

“We’re not here to be cute, we’re not here to be entertaining—we’re here to get that Super Bowl,” Branch added, hammering home the Lions’ 2025 mission. “It’s all we think about, it’s all we talk about.”

Detroit’s front office has done their part too, keeping the core intact while adding key pieces to shore up both the offensive and defensive lines. Jared Goff continues to thrive under coordinator Ben Johnson, while the defense, anchored by Aidan Hutchinson and Branch himself, looks poised to take an elite leap forward.

Head coach Dan Campbell’s fingerprints remain all over this squad—gritty, hard-nosed, and emotionally wired to run through walls for each other. And while Campbell continues to downplay championship talk publicly, behind the scenes the message is clear: the window is wide open, and anything short of a Super Bowl berth in 2025 will be considered a disappointment.

Brian Branch’s confidence isn’t just smoke—it’s the fire fueling Detroit’s long-awaited resurgence. For a fan base that has suffered through decades of irrelevance, those words—“We’re better than last year”—mean everything. And if Branch is right, the rest of the league better get ready for a Motor City takeover.
